November 2024 Predictions
Below is a detailed view of the month and how I will approach hunting the 2024 Rut.
November 1st - 8th - Should be great evening hunting and getting better every day. Some of the best evening hunts of the month will be the Red Moon evenings beginning on the 4th-8th, focusing on field edges and food sources. With warmer than normal temperatures during most of October, the coming cold front across the midwest could make for the "Perfect Storm" for harvesting a big buck! When you have a perfect wind for your setup, a Red Moon and cooler than normal temperatures that will increase activity - you are literally stacking the deck in your favor for catching a mature buck making a mistake during daylight! This quite possibly could be the best week of the year!
November 9th - 12th - Switch focus to Morning hunts. With the Underfoot moon peaking just after daylight, this is when you could catch that big buck coming back to bed just a bit later than normal now. Get in early and plan to stay through lunch, or hunt all day! Bucks will begin checking the doe groups so bedding areas and the travel corridors connecting these areas are great spots right now.
November 12th -15th - Increased daylight activity, even midday - bucks begin walking more and searching for the first doe to come into heat. Don’t miss that 10-2pm window right now for pak activity but this is the time to hunt all day! The best locations will be close to doe bedding areas and the funnels that connect multiple doe groups.
November 15-23rd - Bucks will be on edge and getting frustrated and will begin chasing this week. Most likely the best rutting activity of the year will take place this week, providing the weather cooperates. Be prepared to sit all day! It's all about time in the tree now.
November 25-30 - Peak breeding taking place, potential lockdown. Hunting could be difficult this week. Find the hot does and you will find the biggest bucks in your area, with the most mature animals being very vulnerable when they free up from one doe and search for the next receptive female. Time in the stand will be key, focusing on travel corridors bucks will use when searching for the next hot doe.
