With the Whitetail season fast approaching, it’s a great time to start getting your food plots dialed in, especially your kill plots within these food sources. For most of the summer my strategy has been watching and patterning a couple mature bucks in my Whitetail Institute plots, especially on those Red Moon evenings.
These bucks have been very regular in appearance, but not in their approach to the field in the evenings. In order to maximize my chances for opening week success and throughout the season, I’m establishing a mock scrape right where I want these bucks to show up for a kill shot. With the bow opener less than 2 months away, it’s important to get these mock scrapes established now, so the bucks are familiar with them and are actively using them by the opener!
My go to method to accomplish this is to create a mock scrape in my shooting lane on the edge of the food plot, then hanging a scraper dripper filled with Raw multi buck urine over the scrape. This creates a scenario where the dominant bucks on my farm can take over this scrape, letting everyone know whose boss and putting them right where I need them for the kill shot!
What’s the best week this year to plan my guided or out of state hunt? Well, that’s kind of a “loaded” question and can be difficult to nail down. Personally, I’ve enjoyed tremendous success the last decade planning my trips far from home
